Full PHD position

Daniela Ciccarelli (PhD) works as a researcher in Plant Ecology since 2008 at the University of Pisa (Italy). She graduated in Biological Sciences in 1997 at Pisa University and she achieved her Ph.D in “Plant Biosystematics and Ecology” in 2001 at Florence University. From November 2000 to October 2004 she worked as postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Botanical Sciences of Pisa University. In 2005 she obtained the postgraduate specialization in “Medicinal Plant Science and Technology” at Pisa University. At the same University, she worked as teaching assistant for the course of Botany from 2000 to 2007. Meanwhile, she travelled abroad as research visitor in Slovakia, Great Britain and Spain. From March 2005 to March 2007 she was involved in an international project funded by INTERREG IIIA for the study of the Mediterranean coastal ecosystems. Since March 2008 she is a permanent Researcher BIO/03 (Plant Ecology) at the Department of Biology of Pisa University. During the period 2008-2010 she taught several courses for Environmental Science and Technology, Natural Sciences and for Conservation and Evolution. From 2011 she teaches "Coastal flora and vegetation" for Environmental Science (Pisa University).
She is a teacher member of PhD in Biology (University of Pisa, from 2012 up today), vice-president of Environmental Sciences (University of Pisa, from 2013 up today), responsible of an international cooperation between University of Pisa and University of Sao Paulo (Brazil), member of the technical-scientific committee of ornamental flowering plants (Tuscany Region, from 2015 up today), member of TRY project - Plant Trait Database, DIVERSITAS/IGBP and Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry, Jena (Germany, from 2015 up today).
Current research interests are focused on the study of Mediterranean coastal sand dune vegetation in relation to geomorphology, sedimentology, soil characteristics, natural and human factors; functional adaptations of Mediterranean plants (morphological, anatomical and physiological traits are analysed from a functional point of view); phytochemical studies of Mediterranean plants. Her scientific production is represented, beside Ph.D and specialization thesis, by 36 papers in extenso published since 2001 up today. Most of the articles published are on international journals with impact factor (ISI). She attended several national and international congresses contributing with several abstracts and/or speaking.
